Job Coach / Employment Specialist – Part-Time Evenings

Service Area: Dumfries and Fredericksburg, Virginia
Pay: $21.00–$22.00 per hour, based on experience
Hours: Approximately 24–29 hours per week
Schedule: Evenings, late nights, and Saturdays
Work Setting: Employer worksite and community-based
Travel: Client pickup in Dumfries and travel to the employer’s worksite in Fredericksburg
Mileage: Reimbursement provided for approved work-related travel

Help Someone Succeed at Work and Build Greater Independence

RISE Services is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Job Coach / Employment Specialist to provide individualized workplace support to a person with a disability who is employed in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

This position requires traveling to Dumfries to pick up the participant and accompanying or transporting the participant to the employer’s worksite in Fredericksburg. The Job Coach will provide support during the participant’s scheduled work shift.

Depending on the participant’s transportation arrangements, the participant may occasionally use Uber or Lyft to return home after work. Applicants should nevertheless be prepared to provide transportation as assigned and must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who prefers evening hours and enjoys teaching, coaching, encouraging others, and helping people become more independent in the workplace.

A bachelor’s degree and previous job-coaching experience are not required. Training is provided.

Current Work Schedule

The participant’s current work schedule is:

  • Tuesday: 9:00 p.m.–3:00 a.m.

  • Thursday: 3:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

  • Friday: 3:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

  • Saturday: 3:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m.

Applicants must be comfortable working evening and overnight hours, including a shift ending at approximately 3:00 a.m.

The participant’s days and shift times may vary slightly based on the employer’s operational needs. The selected employee must be dependable, maintain consistent availability, and be reasonably flexible when the employer adjusts the participant’s schedule.

Additional paid time may include approved travel, documentation, team communication, training, and other authorized employment-support activities.

What You’ll Do

Transportation and Workplace Support

  • Travel to Dumfries to pick up the participant and transport or accompany the participant to the employer’s worksite in Fredericksburg.

  • Provide individualized job coaching during scheduled evening and overnight work shifts.

  • Follow the participant’s approved transportation and service plan.

  • Coordinate transportation arrangements when the participant is scheduled to use Uber, Lyft, or another approved transportation option.

  • Maintain professional boundaries and follow all organizational transportation and safety requirements.

  • Communicate promptly with a supervisor regarding transportation problems, schedule changes, safety concerns, or unexpected workplace issues.

Job Coaching

  • Help the participant learn and perform assigned job duties.

  • Teach workplace routines, safety procedures, time management, and employer expectations.

  • Reinforce appropriate workplace communication, professional behavior, and problem-solving skills.

  • Support effective communication with supervisors and coworkers.

  • Encourage independence without completing the participant’s job duties for them.

  • Identify and develop natural workplace supports.

  • Monitor progress and gradually adjust support as the participant becomes more independent.

  • Provide encouragement and assistance during challenging or unfamiliar workplace situations.

  • Help the participant maintain successful employment.

Documentation and Communication

  • Complete accurate progress notes and required documentation by established deadlines.

  • Document services, participant progress, challenges, transportation arrangements, and workplace outcomes.

  • Communicate professionally with the participant, family or support team, employer, and RISE Services management.

  • Report incidents, schedule changes, concerns, and significant developments promptly.

  • Participate in required training, supervision, and service-planning activities.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is not required.

  • Must be available for the listed evening, late-night, and Saturday shifts.

  • Must be comfortable working until approximately 3:00 a.m. on Tuesdays.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.

  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly between Dumfries and Fredericksburg.

  • Ability to transport a participant when required.

  • Acceptable driving record and proof of required automobile insurance.

  • Dependability and ability to arrive on time for participant pickup and scheduled work shifts.

  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to work independently during evening and overnight hours.

  • Ability to remain responsive to the participant, employer, and supervisor.

  • Ability to complete electronic documentation accurately and on time.

  • Basic computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, and electronic documentation systems.

  • Ability to satisfy applicable background-screening and employment requirements.

Experience supporting individuals with disabilities or people who experience barriers to employment is preferred. Relevant experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring, customer service, supervision, human services, behavioral health, direct support, or workforce development may also be considered.

Preferred—but Not Required

  • Supported Employment, Individual Supported Employment, job-coaching, or direct-support experience.

  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual, developmental, behavioral, or other disabilities.

  • Experience providing services during evening, overnight, or nontraditional work hours.

  • Knowledge of Medicaid Waiver, vocational rehabilitation, or disability-employment services.

  • Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act and reasonable workplace accommodations.

  • CESP, ACRE, DSP, or another employment-support credential.

This is not a remote, office-based, or daytime position.
